Find out how to make your vote count ... and count ... and count!
This is not a party-political site - we have no political affiliation.
We just think the present First-Past-The-Post system works well in giving a quick result without days or weeks of re-calculating. But to be fair, it's not very representative.
That's why Proportional Representation (PR) has been tried in many countries with - to be honest - limited success. And it's why the Alternative Vote (AV) system was put to referendum - and
lost!
We're proposing something which retains the best of both systems without the clumsy and self-defeating redistribution of seats. ProFirst as we call it (Proportional First-Past-The-Post or "PFPTP" for the acronym-minded) gives you PR where your vote always counts, while keeping the simplicity of First-Past-The-Post.
Don't rubbish the present system - just recycle it!
No need to throw out the good bits of the present system
By changing the way votes in Parliament are counted, while leaving each constituency with the MP who got the most votes, it's now possible to remove the very large differences between how people
voted and how much that influences the votes in Parliament, without scrapping the whole system.

There's a whole website devoted to how ProFirst would work
If you would like to see what effect the new system would have on voting power in the House, then all the details are available, based on the 2010 Election figures for each UK constituency.
